The 18rh Annual Kitchrie Festival pioneers the preservation and popularization of Heritage Art Forms brought from India to the Americas since 1838.  These art forms were preserved in South American mainland countries as, Guyana, Suriname and Belize, and Caribbean islands like, Trinidad, Jamaica, Grenada, Guadeloupe and Martinique. Today, Richmond Hill known as "Little Guyana,” is the largest Population of Indo-Caribbean and South Asian Immigrants in New York State, where our cultural arts continue to thrive.

Join our RAMLEELA VILLAGE and BUILD A BRIDGE TO LANKA!  Become Characters in Ramleela! THE ORIGINAL WARRIOR AVATARS! Together we will build the cities of AYODHYA, LANKA create BANWAS (forest). Together we'll make Masks, Crowns, Costumes, Bows, Arrows and Gadas (Hanuman's weapon). Together as a Family we'll create THE RAMLEELA VILLAGE! We'll Sing, Play, Dance and bring the INDO-CARIBBEAN RAMLEELA ALIVE IN RICHMOND HILL NEW YORK!
RAMLEELA is an outdoor music-dance-drama based on the life of Avatar, Rama, hero of the Indian epic, The Ramayana.  Ramleela is the longest running theater in the world and it continues to flourish in India and places like the Caribbean, enacting the trials and triumphs of a noble son returning home to Ayodhya with his virtuous wife, Sita, after 14 years of exile and abduction to Lanka by King Ravana.  It is truly the People's Theater, assuming the roles of celestial and nature beings, animals, plants and mythical kings. Through our own unique enactment, we transform a simple story to a mirror image of our own living conditions in rebirth, year after year, during Ramleela.  This Indo-Caribbean leela is fast disappearing from the cultural tapestry, today thriving only in Trinidad.
Brought to the Americas since 1838 by East Indian Indentured Laborers, Ramleela continues to resonate in the hearts of the people, who have infused it with their own unique and joyous, Indo-Caribbean flavor and style.

At the Rajkumari Cultural Center, we  believe there's nothing to be proud about losing our preciousl heritage arts!  So, we are working with our best Practitioners, Master Artists, Scholars and the Community for the Indo-Caribbean Ramleela To Take Root In New York to preserve our ancestral legacy for new generations born in the United States.
