The 14th Annual Kitchrie Festival takes place on Saturday, September 8, 2012 from 5:30-10:30 pm at The Fair Field Pavilion, 131-10 101 Avenue, Richmond Hill, NY 11419. General Admission: $10 and Kids (10/Under) FREE!
Kitchrie 2012 will be a spicy extravaganza of drumming, singing, dancing and spoken word performances and multi media expos by a galaxy of master artists, scholars, producers from Guyana, Trinidad, Suriname, Jamaica, and the U.S. Kitchrie 2012 is packed highly interactive and participatory events through out the day and should not be missed. Be ready to sing, dance and play jaal, and eat lots of free Kitchrie!
6:00-7:30 pm: From Chowtal to Chutney - A multi-media expo traces the Indian music roots, Chowtal, Ramayan and Tan singing, Chutney music and Dholak/Tassa drumming; and shows how they have taken root within the Indo-Caribbean immigrant communities in NY, through the passing of heritage traditions to the Next Generation born in the U.S. Presented by Ethnomusicologist, Dr. Peter Manuel.
