Shrimati "Aunty Bhago" Ramsahai is Custodian/Singer of The Women’s Repertory of Songs: Matikor, Mouran, Kanyadaan, Sohar "Aunty Bhago”, as she is affectionately called, is Custodian of Women’s Repertory – Many traditional songs for birth and wedding ceremonies are the exclusive repertory of women singers, who often accompany themselves on the drum. These groups often consist of respected grandmothers, who are also connected with temple communities as leading devotees with experience and skill in organizing ceremonies and festivals, preparing feasts, and performing ritual songs. The Ladies Vocal Ensemble, led by Aunty Bhago, sings at pujas, birth, naming ceremonies, weddings and funerals, at yagnas and kathas, and many other temple ceremonies. Srimati Ramsahai, singer, musician, is leader of the ladies' singing group. she learned to sing and play the dholak (drum) from her mother and grandmother while she was still a little girl growing up in the Corentyne, Guyana.
